With the heat index predicted to reach the low 100s this week, it is important for older adults to have access to a safe and cool environment. Individuals identified as at-risk during times of high heat and humidity include those who are dependent on supplemental oxygen, have ambulatory challenges, live alone, or have been diagnosed with other chronic conditions causing distress with extreme heat.
The Pike County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is encouraging older adults who do not have access to adequate cooling systems, fans, or to a cooling center, to call the AAA Office at (570)-775-5550 or to visit their local Senior Center.
